English: Winifred Wagner (1897–1980), was the English-born wife of Siegfried Wagner, the son of Richard Wagner, and ran the Bayreuth Festival after her husband's death in 1930 until the end of World War II in 1945. She was a close friend to Adolf Hitler.
Français : Winifred Wagner (1897–1980), est la belle-fille de Richard Wagner. Elle fut notamment directrice du festival de Bayreuth et amie personnelle d'Adolf Hitler.

Durch die Gewinnung des weltberühmten Dirigenten Toscanini, der sich mit genialer Hingebung den Werken Richard Wagners gewidmet hat und der besonders mit „Parsifal" einen wahren Triumph seiner einzigen Kunst feierte, hat Bayreuth einen künstlerischen Aufschwung genommen, der sich in übervollen Häusern zum Ausdruck bringt.

This work is in the public domain in the United States because it meets three requirements:

  1. it was first published outside the United States (and not published in the U.S. within 30 days),
  2. it was first published before 1 March 1989 without copyright notice or before 1964 without copyright renewal or before the source country established copyright relations with the United States,
  3. it was in the public domain in its home country (אוסטריה) on the URAA date (January 1, 1996 for most countries).

It is also in the public domain in other countries and areas where the copyright terms of anonymous or pseudonymous works are 80 years or less since publication.

English: The Austrian copyright law of 1936 specified that photographs are copyrighted for a term of 20 years after publication, or 20 years after creation for photographs which were not published within 20 years. The copyright law of 1953 introduced a distinction between photographic works and simple photographs so that photographic works were now covered by the 50 years pma term for artistic works, but it also specified that photographs which were already in the public domain before 1953 and would now be considered photographic works did not become copyrighted again. The copyright law of 1972, which extended the protection period for artistic works to 70 years pma, was not retroactive either. The Austrian copyright law of 1996 restored all works to 70 years pma as per the EU directive, but this law occurred after the URAA date so the older terms on photographs were still in effect on January 1, meaning pre-1932 photos would not have been restored in the U.S. even though they were in Austria shortly thereafter.
